JSFVG (Swiss Youth Protection Act for films and video games)
The Swiss law that requires age ratings and age checks for films and video games.
The Federal Act on the Protection of Minors in the Areas of Film and Video Games (Jugendschutzgesetz Film und Videospiele, JSFVG) came into force on 1 January 2025. It introduces uniform age ratings and age checks for films and video games across Switzerland, with transition periods for some obligations.
Who is affected
- Cinemas, retailers and events showing or selling films and games.
- Online and on-demand platforms offering films.
- Platform services that host user-generated video content.
What it means for age checks
Providers must make sure minors can't access content above their age rating. Online, that means real age verification or parental controls rather than a self-declared date of birth. The details are set out in industry rules recognised by the federal government.
