Self-declaration
Information a person provides about themselves without it being checked.
A self-declaration is any data a person enters themselves, such as a name, date of birth or address, without verification. The "I am over 18" checkbox is the classic example.
When it is enough, and when it isn't
Self-declaration is fine for low-risk uses, such as personalising content. For age-restricted products, regulated onboarding or anything with fraud risk, it proves nothing, and regulators increasingly require real checks instead.
