Presentation attack
An attempt to fool a camera-based check with a photo, screen, mask or other fake.
A presentation attack shows the camera something other than the real, live person: a printed photo, a video on another screen, a paper or silicone mask, or a digitally generated face displayed on a device. Presentation attack detection (PAD), also called liveness detection, is designed to stop them. ISO/IEC 30107 is the international standard for testing it.
Presentation versus injection
In a presentation attack the fake is physically in front of the camera. In an injection attack, the fake is fed into the system digitally, bypassing the camera. Good verification needs defences against both.
